Bay Mills Indian Community, in conjunction with Bay Mills and Superior Townships, has formed a 24-hour emergency medical service (EMS), which opened on January 8, 2001. Located in the heart of the Indian community is Bay Mills Emergency Connection (BMEC). The mission statement for the service is "Connecting with communities and allied health care professionals to offer Superior patient care."
BMEC brings some unique advantages and opportunities to the emergency medical arena. The service is currently staffed with both paid and volunteer personnel. BMEC has introduced the concept of medical providers performing other tasks such as addressing safety issues and providing assistance with various clinics. The staff has worked on evacuation plans for the community's public facilities, hazardous material awareness, both community and occupational education/training programs, as well as maintaining or advancing their own skills and licensures. This concept has helped justify the paid provider status. We currently have EMT-Basics, EMT-Specialists, and EMT-Paramedics on staff at Bay Mills Emergency Connection. The staff works in partnership with state & local governments, medical control, receiving medical facilities, law enforcement and other ambulance services to ensure consistency and quality patient care.
An educational hub has also been created, at Bay Mill Community College (BMCC). This offers another unique twist to BMEC. Our goal is to provide continuous EMS programs at all levels of licensure. This will help all area services when recruiting new personnel for their services throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
Bay Mills Emergency Connection is an entity of Bay Mills Indian Community. Under State and Eastern Upper Peninsula Medical Control Protocols, the service operates Advanced Life Support. Our facility is located at 3406 S. Pine Village Road in Brimley. The area of operation includes Bay Mills Indian Community, Superior Township, and Bay Mills Township. For emergencies, you can contact us by dialing "911". Our professional, courteous staff is on duty 24-hours a day to assist you in the event of an emergency.
Our future goals include: Offering continuous EMS educational programs at BMCC that exceed the state standards, and making licensed personnel more available to all services.
