BRIMLEY — In a second disappointing loss in two weeks, the Brimley Varsity football team fell to Rapid River on Sept. 19 in a 44-26 contest.
The Bays were in the lead 14-8 in the second quarter against the Rockets in the non-conference game, but two touchdowns by Rapid River put Brimley into a difficult 24-14 game at the half.
Brimley was unable to recover from their game position, and the win went to the Rockets.
Despite the loss, Coach Brian Reattoir was pleased with how his team played.
“The game went very well,” Reattoir said. “We were able to move the ball up and down the field when we wanted to, and we played hard. Defense had a couple of mis-ques that cost us 16 points, but we spread our offense out real well.”
On offense, Brimley had 334 yards against Rapid River, led by Albert Bertram with 92 yards, Kyle Dillon with 84 yards and a touchdown, and Gary LaPonsie with 83 yards.
Adam Fierstein topped defense with 16 blocks, and Derek Parish had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.
On Sept. 27, the Bays, now 1-3, will play Pickford on home turf.
Looking ahead, Reattoir said that the game will be pivotal in the conference.
“Whoever wins this game will win the conference,” Reattoir said. “This game will be a big one for both of us. Both teams are evenly matched, so this should be a good game.”
The Panthers look towards the weekend with a 3-1, 1-0 record after beating DeTour 53-0 last Friday evening.
