Bay Mills Indian Community's primary election, held Oct. 15, yielded the candidates who will run in the general election on Nov. 5. An Oct. 16 hand-count of the 462 votes ballots cast, conducted by the Election Committee and witnessed by interested parties, confirmed election results. The recount lasted for four-and-a-half hours.
Incumbent Tribal Chairman L. John Lufkins will run against Jeffrey D. Parker, former tribal chairman. In the vice chairman race, incumbent Allyn Cameron will take on contender Dave Menominee, presently the chairman of the tribe's Conservation Committee.
Treasurer Ken Perron elected not to run again. Top vote-getters for treasurer, separated by only five votes, Leah Jahnke and Diane L. Teeple will face off in the general election. Contender Greg Parker will challenge incumbent Secretary Terry E. Carrick for his seat.
Councilperson Norma Bennett gave up her incumbency to run for vice chair, leaving the field open for councilperson. Newcomers Vicki J. Newland and Alexander W. Easton will vie for councilperson on Nov. 5.
Appellate Judge candidates Julie Timmer and Joann LeBlanc will go on the general election for the single Appellate Judge seat.
Moving on to the general election in the school board race are Jennifer Touchtone, Michelle Carrick, Sonja Killips, Aaron Wayne Tadgerson, Ann Cameron Belleau and Wanda Perron. Three candidates from the field of six will be elected Nov. 5.
Moving on to the general election in the Conservation Committee race are Timothy G. Kinney, Michael Weston, Tom Brown Jr., Donald Tadgerson, Dennis J. Carrick, Tony LeBlanc, Rich Parrish, and Albert Lothrop. Four candidates from the field of eight will be elected Nov. 5.
