BAY MILLS — Although only in the initial stages, Ojibwe Charter School officials are proceeding to develop an athletics program for the new school.
Jim Rundborg, a regional director with Mosaica Education, said in an email that he is waiting to receive the proper applications from the Michigan High School Athletic Association so that the charter school can apply to have a state-recognized sports program.
Rundborg also said that the school can have a junior/senior high sports program if those grades have at least 15 students who can participate. He added that he should receive the application in May and the board would have to act upon it then, perhaps in a special meeting.
Key to the program would be for the school to enter into a consolidation agreement with another school that already has a sports program with sports like football and basketball.
