Bay Mills Health Center physicians leaving
Dr. Stevens and Dr. Hicks will leave the Bay Mills Health Center this June to return to their New York hometown. They will be replaced by Dr. Caldwell DO. Wendy Jamros, family nurse pratictioner, will remain at the health center. There will be no disruption in medical services.
Traditional crafts, goods needed for Soo Locks Festival Heritage Days slated for June 26
The Downtown Development Authority and River of History Museum is hosting a Heritage Day event during the Soo Locks Festival. The Heritage Day event will take place on the River of History Museum Lawn on Saturday, June 26.
Vendors that specialize in traditional crafts and goods are encouraged to participate in this event. This family fun event will help to educate our community and tourists about our past history through hands on displays that show how crafts and goods were made in our historic past.
Cash prizes will be available for participating artist and crafters.

Fun stuff at food coop
Beautiful Leaf Food Cooperative of Sault, Mich., is made up of local residents, from both sides of the border, who want more organic and vegetarian selection, special selections for those with food allergies and access to special foods like Asian spices. The coop also has the ability to purchase non-grocery items such as personal care products, cleaning products, fun stuff like beeswax candles and incense, and even kitty litter.
Beautiful Leaf Food Cooperative is always looking for new members. The joining fee is $10 and members pay $10 per year to help out with expenses. Members meet once a month to pick up their purchases at Northern Transitions in the Sault.

April 27 winners are Jim Owens of Brimley winning the $100 draw and Glenna Maki, also of Brimley, winning $25. “Fun Funds” at GFS Marketplace
The Ojibwe Charter School Parent/Teacher Organization and Gordon Food Service (GFS) in Sault Ste. Marie are teaming up to bring you “Fun Funds,” a fundraising program to raise valuable dollars for school activities. GFS will send Ojibwe Charter School a monthly rebate check based on a percentage of purchases by members during the month.
This program is open to the public and no membership fee is required. All you have to do is visit GFS in Sault Ste. Marie and tell them you want to enroll in “Fun Funds” to benefit the Ojibwe Charter School PTO and start shopping.

Babysitting course

Attention All Bike Riders
The Bay Mills Safe Kids Coalition will not hold a bike rodeo this year. In conjunction with May's Safe Bike Month, the Coalition will display information on safe riding and bicycle helmets in the Bay Mills Medical Center's lobby area.
With all this information available, the Bay Mills Law Enforcement has agreed to work with the Coalition to issue “tickets” to all young people who are seen wearing their helmets.
Each ticket will enable the responsible bike rider a chance to win a new bike in a drawing to be held in August. The more tickets issued to each rider, the better chance there is of winning a bike.

Anyone wishing to make an eye appointment may do so by calling either Donelda (Tweek) or Dawn at 248-3204, ext. 3166 or 3153. When you call, please leave your phone number so they can call you back.
Those who are, or who have children, on Medicaid can call for their own appointments. We cannot put you on the appointment list.
Anyone can go to any eye doctor they wish without going through Dawn or Tweek, but, you must call Dawn for a voucher before you see the doctor — you will not get a voucher after your appointment date.
Bake Sale
The Friday after every payday, the Bay Mills Pow Wow Committee will hold a bake sale at the Ellen Marshall Memorial Health Center. Donations of baked goods are welcome. All proceeds benefit the 13th Annual Bay Mills Honoring Our Veterans Competition Pow Wow.

Fish Fry to benefit Carrick and Amo May 21
A fish fry fundraiser to help Stephanie Carrick and Joel Amo attend the Down Under International Sport Games in Australia will be held Friday, May 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Brimley High School cafeteria. Cost is $7 per person, 5 and under eat free.
Brimley High School Drama Class to presemt play May 22
The Brimley High School Drama Class will present “Fast Train to the Poor House,” by Kenneth Staley, on Sat., May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Brimley High School Old Gymnasium. Admission will be $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and students.
Soo Theatre Project to hold flea market May 22
In order to help fund the renovation of the historic Soo Theatre in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Soo Theatre Project, Inc., will hold a flea market on Sat., May 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations may be dropped off to the Theatre's retail space between 9 a.m. and noon.

Benefit Softball Tournament May 29, 30
A softball tournament benefiting Diane Kinney will be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 and 30, at the Bay Mills ballfield. All level division players are welcome. There will be a Home Run Derby, and a beer stand and concessions will be available. The three home run rule will be in effect, and no Miken Ultra II bats will be permitted. Mt. Pleasant's Ziibiwing Center holds expo May 29 & 30
Honoring the Artists Expo, May 29 & 30 — Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture and Lifeways. Artists from all of North American gave generously of their time and skill to contribute to the Diba Jimooyung permanent exhibit. Please come and meet these artists who will be demonstrating and selling their work at the new Ziibiwing Center. Black ash baskets, beadwork, sculpture, paintings and more. Ken Hatfield Watercolor Exhibit on display thru May 30
The watercolor paintings of Ken Hatfield will be on display in the Alberta House Arts Center Mini Gallery until May 30. Many of the paintings were completed on site within 50 miles of Tuscon, Ariz., using a small watercolor kit with a 4- by 6-inch pad. Others were painted in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula. Alberta House is open Tuesday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 217 Ferris Street in Sault Ste.
