BMCC graduates Class of 2004

BAY MILLS — Bay Mills Community College faculty and staff and many area residents gathered May 14 at Bay Mills Resort and Casino's Horizon's Conference Center to witness the commencement ceremony of Bay Mills Community College's 2004 graduating class. [more]



Council takes up tribal appointments, requests

BAY MILLS — The Executive Council met May 10 with all members in attendance. Randy Touchtone requested permission to continue renting equipment from the tribe. Touchtone said he does little weekend jobs, such as hauling sand, on the reservation weekends when the equipment is generally not being used. He makes money, the tribe makes money from the rental, and the tribal members save money. He already had five or six calls requesting jobs. [more]



M-DOT rebuilds M-221 through Brimley

BRIMLEY — Kicking off at the beginning of May, the Michi-gan Department of Transportation and Bacco Construction of Iron Mountain, Mich., stripped away the old asphalt from M-221 to make way for a new, smooth surface on the frequently-used road. [more]



Preparations ongoing for Blessing of the Bikes

BAY MILLS — Planning is well underway for the 10th Annual Eastern Upper Peninsula Blessing of the Bikes, scheduled for June 11 and 12 at Bay Mills Resort and Casino. [more]

Parish appointed to federal education council

BAY MILLS — Joining 12 Native educational professions from around the nation, Bay Mills Community College President Michael “Mickey” Parish has been appointed to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education. [more]



Boys & Girls Club adds 5-7 program

BAY MILLS — Welcoming back staff member Karol Perron, the Bay Mills chapter of the Boys and Girls Club is preparing to kick off its summer season with a bold new plan — offering after-school and summer activities for five, six and seven year-old area children. [more]



Peppler announces reelection plan

SAULT STE. MARIE — Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Peppler announced in a recent release that he is seeking reelection. Since his four-year term began in 2000, Peppler, with his two assistants, have handled over 7,000 cases. [more]
