Fun stuff at food coop

Beautiful Leaf Food Cooperative of Sault, Mich., is made up of local residents, from both sides of the border, who want more organic and vegetarian selection, special selections for those with food allergies and access to special foods like Asian spices. The coop also has the ability to purchase non-grocery items such as personal care products, cleaning products, fun stuff like beeswax candles and incense, and even kitty litter.

Beautiful Leaf Food Cooperative is always looking for new members. The joining fee is $10 and members pay $10 per year to help out with expenses. Members meet once a month to pick up their purchases at Northern Transitions in the Sault.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the local food coop can contact Deb Kobes, 906-635-1886 or Jennifer Dale, 906-248-3455.

“Fun Funds” at GFS Marketplace

The Ojibwe Charter School Parent/Teacher Organization and Gordon Food Service (GFS) in Sault Ste. Marie are teaming up to bring you “Fun Funds,” a fundraising program to raise valuable dollars for school activities. GFS will send Ojibwe Charter School a monthly rebate check based on a percentage of purchases by members during the month.

This program is open to the public and no membership fee is required. All you have to do is visit GFS in Sault Ste. Marie and tell them you want to enroll in “Fun Funds” to benefit the Ojibwe Charter School PTO and start shopping.

Attention All Bike Riders

The Bay Mills Safe Kids Coalition will not hold a bike rodeo this year. In conjunction with May's Safe Bike Month, the Coalition will display information on safe riding and bicycle helmets in the Bay Mills Medical Center's lobby area.

With all this information available, the Bay Mills Law Enforcement has agreed to work with the Coalition to issue tickets to all young people who are seen wearing their helmets.

Each ticket will enable the responsible bike rider a chance to win a new bike in a drawing to be held in August. The more tickets issued to each rider, the better chance there is of winning a bike.

For more information, please contact Healthy Start Nurse Joann LeBlanc at 248-5527.

Babysitting course

Healthy Start along with other departments in the Community is starting plans for the summer Babysitting course. Tentative plans are for the third week in August. Watch for further announcements. We will be providing instruction to adolescents 11 and up. Call Joann or Gina for details, 248-3204.
