JOB POSTING

The Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter School will be hiring for the following positions: part-time music teacher — must be fully certified in music education for grades K-12; part-time middle school English teacher — must be fully certified to teach English for grades 7-12; part-time middle school Mathematics teacher — must be certified to teach mathematics for grades 7-12; part-time elementary physical education teacher — must be elementary certified; part-time recess attendant (five hours per week.) SCHEDULED EVENTS

Tennis pro to give free lessons

On Friday and Saturday, Aug. 13 and 14, United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Tennis Professional Barbara Mueller will offer free lessons and advice to people of all ages. If you are interested in participating or know someone who is, please call Joan Jerman at the Department of Recreation and Health promotion: 248-3241, ext. 3119, to sign up. We need an estimate of participants to help with scheduling and itinerary. Lessons will be held at the tennis courts in the playground area at Spectacle Village, off Turtle Drive.

OCS Orientation

The following schedule of orientations has been made to finalize all enrollment paperwork for students attending Ojibwe Charter School in the fall:
Monday, Aug. 16 — Developmental Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grade;
Tuesday, Aug. 17 — Second, Third and Fourth Grades;
Wednesday, Aug. 18 — Fifth and Sixth Grades;
Thursday, Aug. 19 — Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Grades.
All orientations will be held at the Ojibwe Charter School at 6:30 p.m. Please be prepared to provide copies of your child's birth certificate, updated immunization record, social security card, proof of residence and family income.

Women of the Woods Retreat

The Bay Mills Substance Abuse Program will host their annual Women of the Woods retreat August 20-22, at the Bay Mills Cultural Lodge (former Iroquois Inn.) They will be accepting the first 25 women to sign up. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to attend. Activities at this year's retreat include a talking circle, sweat lodge, tanning, facials, pedicures/manicures, henna tattoos, arts and crafts, and many other fun activities. Historical Trauma 3-Day Conference

Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians will host an Historical Trauma 3-Day Conference Sept. 8-10, at Victories Hotel in Petosky, Mich. There is no registration fee for this event, but those who attend may bring a give-away item valued at $5. Attention Bikers!

The Safe Kids Bike Helmet Safety Program is coming to a close and will hold a drawing for the new bikes this month. Remember, if you want your name submitted, Law Enforcement and other community health staff need to see you wearing your helmet. The tentative date for the drawing is Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The Bay Mills Housing Authority is attempting to compile a database of e-mail addresses for community members. This will help us to make sure that all community members receive relevant information in a timely manner. Softball teams wanted

Ho-Chunk Nation's Seventh Annual All Nations Co-Ed Softball Tournament will be held Friday to Sunday, Sept. 3-5, at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Black River Falls, Wisc. The tournament will be held in conjunction with Ho-Chunk Nation's Labor Day contest powwow. The first 16 teams to pay the $275 entry fee are eligible to compete for the $3,500 first prize, $2,500 second prize and $1,500 first prize. Additionally, the two teams travelling the farthest receive $500 and $275, respeictively. Teams must be signed up by Aug. 27 and schedules will be randomly drawn on Aug. 29. VFW Raffle Winners

July 27 winners of the VFW Raffle were Debbie Mayer of Rudyard, winning $100 and Gary Hough of Rudyard, winning $25. Aug. 3 winners were Joyce Castle of Rudyard., who won $100 and Joann Goetz of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich, who won $25.

Downtown Soo Farmer's Market

The Downtown Development Authority and MSU Extension Office are pleased to announce the start of this year's downtown Soo Farmer's Market. The Farmer's Market will take place every Wednesday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m.,until the first frost. The market is located in the City parking lot across from Penny's Kitchen. The Sault Ste. Marie Farmer's Market will bring farm fresh produce, farm eggs, inspected chicken, cut flowers, garden plants and compost teas. Blood drive to be held Aug. 19

Bay Mills Indian Community is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive to be held Thursday, Aug. 19, from noon to 5:15 p.m., at the Bay Mills Resort and Casino Horizon's Conference Center. If you're interested in donating, please call 248-5527, ext. 3278, for information or to schedule an appointment. All donors must have a photo ID or donor card.

Dates set for sports physicals

If your child plans on participating in sports this coming school year, please make sure they receive their physical. All children, in grades four-through-12th, are required to have a sports physical prior to the participation of sports. The following dates are available for physical appointments:
— Tuesday: Aug. 16
— Thursday: Aug. 19
— Tuesday: Aug. 24

ELDER'S EXERCISE — Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:30 a.m., Waishkey Center Gym. Improving circulation, flexibility and strength is important and possible regardless of age. The exercises we do will lessen back and leg strain because they are performed sitting down. Elders, join us for this safe and enjoyable exercise. This class is free and open to the public.

AEROBICS — Monday and Wednesday 11:00-12:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 5-6 p.m., Waishkey Center Gym. This class features 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise, 20 minutes of muscle toning and 10 minutes of stretchng. A variety of fitness props, such as hand weights, bars, bands and exercise balls are utilized. Registration and program fee required.

YOGA STRETCH — Satursday 9-10a.m., Waishkey Center Gym. Do you stay away from yoga because you picture gurus turning and twisting their bodies into awkward positions that seem impossible? It doesn't have to be that way in order to reap the benefits. Yoga can help to make you fee good, stretch your muscles, relax your body and mind. Fee required.
