SCHEDULED EVENTS

Teen Night to begin
Teen Night will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. Ages 13 to 18 are invited to the gathering. Activities will vary from dances, movie nights, Òlockdown,Ó open gym, and various sports tournaments.

Chippewa County Democratic Meeting
The Chippewa County Democratic Party will meet Saturday, Aug. 28, at 10:00 a.m., at the Country Kitchen Restaurant, 2644 I-75 Business Spur, Sault Ste Marie (front of K-martÕs parking lot). Master's Touch Quartet

Historical Trauma 3-Day Conference
Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians will host an Historical Trauma 3-Day Conference Sept. 8-10, at Victories Hotel in Petosky, Mich. There is no registration fee for this event, but those who attend may bring a give-away item valued at $5. Teen Intramurals

Softball teams wanted
Ho-Chunk Nation's Seventh Annual All Nations Co-Ed Softball Tournament will be held Friday to Sunday, Sept. 3-5, at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Black River Falls, Wisc. The tournament will be held in conjunction with Ho-Chunk Nation's Labor Day contest powwow. The first 16 teams to pay the $275 entry fee are eligible to compete for the $3,500 first prize, $2,500 second prize and $1,500 first prize. Additionally, the two teams travelling the farthest receive $500 and $275, respeictively. Teams must be signed up by Aug. 27 and schedules will be randomly drawn on Aug. 29. VFW Raffle Winners
Aug. 10 winners of the VFW Raffle were Lynda Pesla of Brimley, winning $100 and Jim Deurweader of Cheboygan, winning $25. Aug. 17 winners were Don Dagnall of Sault Ste. Marie, who won $100 and Pat Brighton of Brimley, who won $25.

Freedom from smoking class
The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians Community Health Program is sponsoring the American Lung Association Freedom from Smoking class. The classes will be held at the Sault Tribe Health Center Auditorium, 2864 Ashmun St., Sault Ste. Marie, Monday, Sept. 13, 20, 27, 29, Oct. 4, 11 25, from 12 to 1 p.m. Classes will also be held at the Kinross Community Care Clinic, 602 Watertower Dr., Kincheloe, Wednesday, Sept. 1, 8, 15, 23, Thursday, Sept. 23, 29, Oct. 6 and 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is a seven-week program to end your smoking habit. The class is open to the public. Nicotine patches and Zyban are available free to Sault Tribe members, Sault Tribe spouses and Sault Tribe employees. Diabetic Neuropathy class
The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians Community Health Program will be offering a class on Diabetic Neuropathy - It Can Affect More than Just Your Feet, at the Sault Tribe Health Center Auditorium, 2864 Ashmun St., Sault Ste. Marie, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. The class will provide an overview of diabetic neuropathy, how the various types of neuropathy Ñ sensory, motor and autonomic - may affect the body, and the treatments available for management. The basics of diabetes and living a full life
The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians Community Health Program will be offering a 'Basics of Diabetes and Living a Full Life' class at the Sault Tribe Health Center Auditorium, 2864 Ashmun St., Sault Ste. Marie, on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. This is a class you will want to attend if you just found out you have diabetes. To attend, please call 906-632-5210.

RECREATION NEWS

The Department of Recreation and Health Promotion, in conjunction with Bay Mills Community College Extension Program, is introducing several leagues to take place starting in September.
Adult dodge ball league - planned for Wednesday evenings, Sept. 22 to Nov. 17, from 8 to 10 p.m. This is for groups 18 and older. Teams can be co-ed and must consist of at least six players - no more than 10. There will be a player fee of $5 per person. Only the first eight teams to sign up will be accepted. The program will run for eight weeks, with a tournament to be held a the end of the league. Prizes will be awarded. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 4:30p.m. Entry fees may be paid at this time, or prior to the first ball being thrown.
Adult horseshoe league - planned for Thursday nights, Sept. 16 to Oct. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. This is for groups 18 and older. This is a team or doubles competition. Only the first 10 teams to sign up will be accepted. The entry fee is $20 per team. The season will consist of five weeks with a tournament at the end. Prizes will be awarded. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 4:30p.m. All fees are due before the shoes fly.

ELDER'S EXERCISE — Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:30 a.m., Waishkey Center Gym. Improving circulation, flexibility and strength is important and possible regardless of age. The exercises we do will lessen back and leg strain because they are performed sitting down. Elders, join us for this safe and enjoyable exercise. This class is free and open to the public.
AEROBICS — Monday and Wednesday 11:00-12:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 5-6 p.m., Waishkey Center Gym. This class features 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise, 20 minutes of muscle toning and 10 minutes of stretchng. A variety of fitness props, such as hand weights, bars, bands and exercise balls are utilized. Registration and program fee required.
YOGA STRETCH — Satursday 9-10a.m., Waishkey Center Gym. Do you stay away from yoga because you picture gurus turning and twisting their bodies into awkward positions that seem impossible? It doesn't have to be that way in order to reap the benefits. Yoga can help to make you fee good, stretch your muscles, relax your body and mind. Fee required.
