BRIMLEY — Still surging with confidence from a Sept. 3, 20-0 victory over conference rival Engadine, the Bays steamrolled the St. Basil Saints 33-0, Saturday, Sept. 11.
The Bays rushing attack proved too much for the Saints defense, as they amassed 303 yards on the ground — led by senior running back Jake Parish with 143 yards on seven carries.
Bays quarterback Travis Lynn found the endzone at the 8:40 mark of the first quarter on a 25 yard quarterback keeper up the sideline. The Bays took an 8-0 lead after Jake Parish hammered in the two-point conversion.
The Bays defense suffocated the Saints offense on the ensuing set of downs, and recovered the ball on their 30 yard line after a botched punt attempt. The Bays offense marched deep into Saints territory, and capitalized when Frank St. George found the endzone on a two-yard scamper around the right side, extending the Bays lead to 14-0. The Bays would fail on the two-point conversion attempt.
The Bays next score came late in the second quarter. On 3rd and long, the Bays Derek Bowen was the recipient of a 25 yard touchdown pass from Lynn. After another failed two-point conversion attempt, the Bays lead was now 20-0.
The third quarter was filled with penalties and turnovers, committed equally by both sides, until Lynn threw a 37 yard completion to Cody Robbins. Lynn caught the slanting Robbins in stride, who took the ball deep into Saints territory. Three plays later the Bays extended their lead to 26-0 after St. George found the endzone on a three yard touchdown run. The Bays had another unsuccessful two-point conversion try, after their initial conversion was called back because of a holding penalty.
The Bays final touchdown came from a spectacular Jake Parish run. Parish took the ball around the left side, breaking two tackles in the backfield, and up the left sideline for a 50 yard touchdown run. After a Winkler PAT, the Bays extended their lead to 33-0.
Saints Head Coach David Sguigna was impressed with the way the his team played, but felt that too many penalties and turnovers hurt his team.
“We made too many mistake — too many stupid penalties and too many stupid turnovers. That's the bottom line,” he said. “How can you win like that?”
Sguigna, though disappointed in his teams performance, was impressed with the Bays team he saw.
“They have some talented players,” he said. “We definitely had some trouble moving them inside, too. But, we're young and there's always next year.”
Frank St. George rushed for two touchdowns and 77 yards on 16 carries. Lynn was 6-for-13 in the air, passing for 93 yards.
The Bays defense was anchored by Jeff Graham and Derek Parish. Graham had seven tackles and an interception, while Parish had five tackles and a sack.
