MSS/ISS services now available in Bay Mills

After an arduous application process, the Bay Mills Maternal and Infant Support Services (MSS/ISS) team is now operational and certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health to bill Medicaid for their services. The program is for Medicaid eligible, pregnant women and infants under age one. [more]



State lifts order restricting Flu vaccine

Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Director Janet Olszewski made a public statement on Monday, Dec. 6, that Michigan has officially lifted the public health order restricting influenza vaccine to vulnerable citizens. [more]



Children deserve to breath smoke-free air

Secondhand tobacco smoke, otherwise known as environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), is a combination of exhaled smoke from a smoker and the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette. In 1986, the U.S. Surgeon General concluded that ETS is a cause of disease, including lung cancer, in healthy nonsmokers; the simple separation of smokers and nonsmokers within the same airspace does not eliminate the exposure of nonsmokers exposure to ETS; and the children of parents who smoke have an increased frequency of respiratory infections, increased respiratory symptoms, and smaller rates of increase in lung function as the lung matures. CPSC warns of hazards from heaters and fireplaces

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is reminding consumers to follow safety precautions when purchasing and using electric or fuel fired heaters and fireplaces to heat their homes this winter. [more]
