
Walking to Wellness 10,000 Steps program a success

The Walking to Wellness 10,000 Steps program, promoted by the Bay Mills Department of Recreation and Health Promotion, ended March 20. A total of 42 participants completed the eight-week program, keeping track of their physical activity using a pedometer. The goal of the program was to increase physical activity to reach the target of 10,000 steps per day. [more]



Blood drives key to replenishing blood supply

With volunteer blood donors being the only source of blood for hospital patients, the need for blood donations is ongoing, according to the American Red Cross (ARC). Currently only five percent of the population donates blood on a regular basis, hardly meeting the need when every two seconds someone in the United States finds themselves in need of a transfusion. An average of 38,000 blood units are needed on any given day. [more]



ITC conducting phone survey amongst tribal members

Inter-Tribal Council (ITC) of Michigan's STEPS to a Healthier U.S. grant, Healthy Anishnaabe, is conducting a personalized phone survey. The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) will be conducted until the end of May. Randomly selected tribal members will be called at their residence to participate. [more]
