Bay Mills Emergency Connection celebrates National EMS Week



BAY MILLS - Bay Mills Emergency Connection (BMEC) celebrated the 32nd Annual Emergency Medical Services (EMS) week, which took place May 15 to 21, by opening their doors to the public with a pair of open houses on May 19 and 20. The open house was not only a celebration of EMS and what they do for their communities, but a chance for community members to have a sneak peak at how BMEC employees live and occupy their time when they're not out on a call. Community Garden underway in Bay Mills

Walkers travel the shores of Lake Huron

Gii-bmosewag-kwewag. In the Ojibwe language, it means, "the women walked." That's exactly what the Mother Earth Water Walkers did - they walked. First, they walked around the shores of Lake Superior in 2003 and then around Lake Michigan in 2004. On Saturday, April 30, the women began to walk again - this time they embarked on a journey around Lake Huron. [more]

Bay Mills Police Department K-9 Unit gets new ride

... and paid for Bay Mills Police Department (BMPD) Officer Paul Baragwanath's dog, Britney, and his canine handling training. The housing office went one step further, however, replacing Baragwanath's old K-9 cruiser with a brand new Dodge Magnum. [more]

Ziers call Point Iroquois Lighthouse home

Since the beginning of December, John and Suzanne Zier have been calling the Point Iroquois Lighthouse their home. While this is the first time Suzanne can officially call the lighthouse her home, it is a homecoming, of sorts, for her husband John - he lived in the lighthouse from 1948 to 1953. [more]
