KINROSS, Mich. - After weeks of planning between the Kinross Charter Township Supervisors office and Lighthouse (lighthouse.net), the computer lab located at the Kinross Recreation Center reopened on June 15, according to a recent release.
The previous funding for the computer lab, through a "Power Up" grant, ran out in May and the Township had been searching for alternatives.
"When we approached Lighthouse with the idea of providing the service to our community we received a very positive response," said Kinross Township Deputy Supervisor Joe Paczkowski.
The previous "Power Up" grant provider would only continue service if the Township agreed to pay $400 per month. The Township's budget would not support that amount.
"We worked out some details in regards to our present wireless agreement with Steve Mason, general manager of Lighthouse," Kinross Township Supervisor Jason Oberle said. "[He] agreed to provide us with up to 1Mb of bandwidth for use by our computer lab."
The Township hopes to have the computer lab open on a voluntary supervised basis Monday through Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m.
