BAY MILLS - The first Anishnaabe Golf Scramble was held on Saturday, June 11, at Wild Bluff Golf Course. With good weather and the course in great shape, the golfers were impressive, according to Wild Bluff Director of Golf Rob Lussenhop.
Brian Denny and Leon White from the Oneida Community in Green Bay, Wisc., garnered first place with a score of 66. The pair will have their names displayed on a plaque in the Wild Bluff Gift Shop and also received the Anishnaabe Scramble Traveling Trophy to be displayed in their community until next year's event.
"I'd like to thank everyone who participated," said Lussenhop. 'We hope to build on this tournament each year and eventually have a full field of players."
Other results were:
Second place, score 74 - Jacques LeBlanc, Sr. and Elmer LeBlanc; third place, score 74 - John Meshieaud and Darryl Wandahsega.
Special event winners were as follows:
Closest to the: pin #6 - Jacques LeBlanc, Sr.; pin #8 -Elmer LeBlanc; #13 -Vinnie Kequam, Jr.; #15 - Mike Teeple.
Long Drive: #7 - Brian Denny; #17 - Jesse Wandahsega.
Winner of the putting contest was Brian Denny.
