Farmer's market to be held each Wednesday
Each Wednesday evening, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a farmer's market will be held at the city lot on the corner of Ashmun and Maple. The items most likely to be offered are fresh produce, baked breads, eggs, fresh and frozen fish, meats and chicken, fruits, and honey and maple syrup. Street musicians are needed to perform during the market; call Jim at 906-635-6368, for more information. The farmer's market is sponsored by the Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Development Authority, MSU Extension and Big North Farmer's Cooperative.

Booster Club raising funds
The Brimley Booster Club is seeking more community involvement from parents of Brimley athletes, fans and alumni. The Booster Club is trying to raise $14,000 for the Brimley Area Schools Athletics Program, which is the estimated cost of busing athletes to games each year. If they do not meet this goal, athletes may have to pay to play. The next Brimley Booster Club meeting will be on July 13, at the Brimley High School Cafeteria.

Alberta House announces schedule
A kid-friendly exhibit will be on display until July 30, at the Alberta House. The exhibit is the artwork of three generations, well-known painter Tedi Selke, her daughter Kate Selke Harmon and her granddaughter Mandy Harmon. An opportunity to meet the artists will be held on July 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until July 30. Carvings by Clint Mulder will be on display until July 30. Mulder works with antler and wood, sometimes creating entire scenes within a moose antler. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist on July 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. The Alberta House is located at 217 Ferris Street, just south of the Soo Locks. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, from 11 to 3 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 906-635-1312.

Rural Development help available
Own and occupy a home in need of repair? Low income, rural Michigan residents could qualify for a low interest loan directly from Rural Development. If you qualify, Rural Development can loan you up to $20,000 at one percent interest to help you improve your house, remove safety or health hazards and make your house accessible to a family member with a disability. SCHEDULED EVENTS

Executive Council to host informational meetings
Bay Mills Executive Council is hosting a series of meetings for tribal members to voice their questions or concerns. Meetings scheduled will meet in the Horizons Conference Center at Bay Mills Resort and Casino from 6 to 8 p.m. Meeting dates are: July 20, Aug. 24, Sept. 21, and Oct. 19.

Blood drive to be held July 20
The Chippewa County Chapter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring a community blood drive on Wednesday, July 20, from 12 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church at 1400 Park Street in Sault Ste. Marie. Type O, Type A negative and Type B negative are the blood types currently suffering the greatest shortage. Walk-ins are accepted, though appointments can be made by calling 906-632-8111.

American Legion to host motorcycle rally
The 2nd annual Veterans Motorcycle Rally will be held July 15 to 17. The rally opens at noon on Friday, July 15, at American Legion Post #3 in Sault Ste. Marie. Throughout the weekend guests will be able to enjoy live music, a variety of food and a number of events. For more information or to register call 906-632-2881, or 800-647-2858.

Vacation Bible School to be held July 18 to 22
Vacation Bible School will be held at the First Congregational Church in Brimley from Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Students will learn about being friends with Jesus through daily bible lessons at the "Circle of Friends Ranch." Those attending can earn awards for attendance and Bible verse memorization. Other activities taking place will include making crafts, puppets, music and games with a western theme. A final campfire is planned for that Friday evening. All students who will be entering kindergarten through the seventh grade are invited to attend.

Free Lunchtime Series
Every Thursday from July 14 through Aug. 11, at noon, there will be a Lunchtime Concert Series, located on the Chippewa County Courthouse lawn, free to the public. Bring your lunch and a lawn chair and enjoy the music. The 2005 lunchtime concert series is sponsored by The Frozen North and Cup of the Day. For information, contact Lee Shirey at 906-635-6973. Rez Run to be held Aug. 13
Start training for the 1st Annual Rez Run, put on by the Recreation and Health Promotion and Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills. Rez Run will be Saturday morning Aug. 13. It will be a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-mile fun run. For more information or training information, call Brandon Kerfoot at 906-248-3241 ext.3155.

Domestic violence support group meets weekly
A Christian based domestic violence support group is being held every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Sault Ste. Marie. Child care is available. For more information contact Victim Advocate Joyce Siegal at 906-248-3204, ext. 3309.

Ho-Chunk Softball Tournament to be held in September
Ho-Chunk Nation's 8th annual All Nations Coed Softball Tournament will be held Sept. 2 to 4, at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Black River Falls, Wisc. The event is being held in conjunction with the Labor Day contest pow wow. The double elimination tourney is limited to 16 teams. There is a $275 entry fee that must be received by Aug. 26. Cash prizes will be awarded; first place team - $3,500; second place - $2,500; third place - $1,500; prizes for fourth to sixth place are based on registration. Prizes will also be awarded for the teams traveling the furthest. For rules and more information call Todd R. Matha at 1-800-434-4070. This event is sponsored by Ho-Chunk Nation.

The WIC office will be at the Armella B. Parker Senior Center on the fourth Thursday of each month. Call 635-3572 for an appointment.

Notice to diabetic patients
The Bay Mills Community Health Department has received permission to use heavy plastic containers for the disposal of used needles, syringes and lancets. Liquid Tide or Folgers Coffee containers are examples of disposal containers that can be used at home. When the container is full it can be brought to the health center for disposal in the contaminated waste box. BM Community Health also has these heavy plastic containers to give away; just stop by to pick one up. If you have any questions or concerns call 906-248-2257.

ELDERS ACTIVITIES

Elders offer summer activities
The Department of Recreation and Health Promotion, along with Bay Mills Community College Extension, is offering summer activities for anyone 50 and older. Sign up as soon as possible so that tickets for planned activities can be purchased. Those interested in a camping trip for the fourth week in August should also sign up immediately so that reservations can be made. Each activity is limited to 16 people and all activities depart from the Waishkey Center. Sign up sheets are posted at the Recreation Department or you can call 906-248-3241, ext. 3119 for Joan Jerman, or ext. 3161 for Jeanne Bedell. Following are scheduled events:

Sunset on the Straits Cruise

on Monday, July 18, departing at 6:30 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 15, departing at 6 p.m. Set sail at 8 p.m. Cost is $15.

Pictured Rocks Boat Tour

on Friday, July 29, departing at 9 a.m. Cost is $29, pack a lunch.

Cross in the Woods tour

on Saturday, Aug. 20, departing at 1 p.m. Cost is free but we will stop for dinner following 4:30 Mass.

Interlochen Concerts

on Thursday, July 7 featuring Alison Krauss and Union Station, and Thursday, Aug. 11, featuring Gordon Lightfoot. Departing at 8 p.m., returning around 2 a.m. Dinner in Traverse City followed by show at 8 p.m. Cost is $25 to $40 for tickets plus dinner.

Music in the Park

, presented by the Downtown Development Authority and the Soo Locks Visitor Association, on Wednesdays from June 15 through Aug. 17. Departing at 5:45 p.m., with performances starting at 7 p.m. Cost is a donation; bring a lawn chair

Fitness Classes
Free Elders exercise programs are held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The exercises are performed sitting to lessen back and leg strain.

Water Exercise
An adult water exercise program is held at Lake Superior State University on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. from June 7 to Aug. 18. A fee is required. Non-swimmers are welcome and transportation is provided. Elders can be picked up and dropped off at their homes. Departing from the Waishkey Center 45 minutes before class.

CULTURAL EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Cultural Workshop
Wanda Perron and Paula Carrick of the Bay Mills History Department will present a history of Bay Mills and the surrounding area at a cultural workshop to be held Wednesday, July 20, at the Bay Mills Cultural Lodge. The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a potluck feast at 5 p.m.

Cultural Committee
The Cultural Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., at the Bay Mills Cultural Lodge. Community welcome. In the event of foul weather, the committee will meet in the Bay Mills court room.
