Transportation costs for extracurricular activities recently got the axe when Brimley Area Schools slashed $680,000 from their budget for the 2005-2006 school year. Dumping charge reduces imported trash

State Rep. Gary McDowell, D-Rudyard, on Thursday, Aug. 4, voiced strong support for a plan to raise the state's dumping charge from 21 cents per ton to $7.50, saying Michigan - the nation's No. 3 importer of trash - could significantly reduce garbage from Canada and other states and pointed to Pennsylvania's success at slashing its garbage imports thanks largely to a high dumping charge.
