Playing Indian is just no fun, Newland says


The NCAA recently announced that it would prohibit colleges from bringing Indian mascots and related imagery to its postseason athletic tournaments. Judging from the collective reaction of universities, pundits, politicians, and fans, you'd have thought that the NCAA had announced it was hosting a puppy-kicking contest. [more]

Unca Bun revisits the old community well


The well was located alongside the road about halfway between the local store and the corner. To be more specific, it would be on the church parking lot on the very edge of the road heading toward the west end. This was a hand dug well with a barrel sunk down about 10 feet to collect seeping water at that level. A bucket with a rope tied to the handle was used to dip the water, which was fairly clear, but sometimes would have an amber color. [more]
