BAY MILLS - The online edition of Bay Mills News (www.baymills.org/newspaper) was recently named a finalist in the 2005 Helen eWards for Web Excellence.
Over 250 sites were nominated for the awards, according to a recent release. The Troy Chamber of Commerce's Internettroy Committee, along with sponsor Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C., will honor nine sites this year.
"We're very happy to be recognized as a finalist for this award," said Bay Mills News Editor Selina Vert. "We work hard to publish a quality newspaper, and that includes our online edition."
Bay Mills News, in its entirety, is published on the Bay Mills website and is updated every two weeks, when the print edition hits newsstands. The site was originally designed by former-staffer Mike Guilmette in September 2003. The site won a 2004 Native American Journalists Association award for Best Internet News Site.
Bay Mills News was nominated for an award in the informational category, along with www.madison-heights.org, www.discoverkalamazoo.com, www.wdi.umich.edu, www.auburnhillschamber.com and www.cmpl.org.
Other categories included interactive experience, business services, eCommerce, business products, online functionality, community organization and innovation. The winners in each category will be announced at a luncheon and business expo on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Troy Community Center.
