Low Income Energy Assistance Program available
Low Income Energy Assistance is available. To apply you must bring all income-related documents for anyone over the age of 18 living in the household. Income includes wages, SSI, child support, FIA assistance, pension, unemployment, self-employment and GA assistance. Applications are being taken at the commodity food warehouse. If you receive assistance from the Family Independence Agency you must provide a denial letter from their office. The 2006 Inter-Tribal Council LIEAP income guidelines is as follows: one-person household - $21,404; two-person household - $27,990; three-person - $34,575; four-person -$41,161. Discount phone service available
Applications for the Lifeline Services discount phone service are available at the Bay Mills Commodities Distribution Building. Those eligible will receive $11.25 off their monthly phone bill and one-half, up to $30, off a new phone service start-up charge. You can qualify for Lifeline Services if you are not a dependent under 60 years-of-age on someone else's Federal Income Tax Return and your total monthly gross income is less than the following: family of one: $1,196; family of two: $1,603; family of three: $2,011; family of four: $2,418; family of five: $2,826; family of six: $3,233; family of seven: $3,641; family of eight: 4,048.
Pow Wow Committee seeks auction items

Executive Council hosts informational meetings
Bay Mills Executive Council has hosted a series of meetings for tribal members to voice their questions or concerns. The last meeting of the series will take place Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Bay Mills Resort and Casino Horizons Conference Center.
Halloween Havoc to be held Oct. 27
The Bay Mills Substance Abuse Program will be hosting "Halloween Havoc" on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Bay Mills ball diamond. Everyone is invited to attend. Ziibiwing Center to host art market
The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways will be hosting the 5th annual Indigenous Peoples Art Market Oct. 7 to 9. The Ziibwing Center is located at 6650 E. Broadway Street, just south of the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant. This event is recognized as one of the finest Native American juried art shows in the country. Elks Lodge to host Polka Fest on Oct. 15
B.P.O. Elks Lodge #552 in Sault Ste. Marie will host an October Polka Fest Oct. 15, from 2 to 11 p.m. Members and guests are invited to participate in a night full of fun and entertainment. From 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., entertainment will be provided by local musician Dave O'Gorman. From 7 to 11 p.m., enjoy the music of "The Northern Sounds" a traditional polka band from Alpena. Authentic Polish and German food will be served, including cabbage rolls, pierogies, German sausage, Kielbasa, sauerkraut. Dinner will be served from 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets for adults are $8 and children's tickets are $4. Tickets can be purchased at the Sault Ste. Marie Elks Lodge, located at 1111 E. Jackson pow wow to be held Oct. 15
The 12th annual Land of Falling Waters Traditional Pow Wow will be held Oct. 15 and 16, at Parkside Middle School in Jackson, Mich. Doors open at 11 a.m., with grand entries taking place at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., on Saturday and at 1 p.m., on Sunday. General admission is $5 per day or $8 for the weekend. Students are $3 with school identification and senior cost is $1; children 12 and under are free if accompanied by an adult. Parkside Middle School is located at 2400 Fourth Street. Quilting bee to be held Oct. 22
The Community Quilters (formerly known as The Bay Mills Charity Quilters) will be making quilts on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waishkey Center gymnasium. Health nights announced
The Chippewa County Health Department will be holding a "Ladies Night" on Monday, Oct. 17, at Avery Square Atrium from 4 to 8 p.m. Free screenings will be offered for breast and cervical cancer for women age 40 to 84 who are income eligible. "Men's Night" will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Prostate cancer, blood pressure and colorectal screenings are just a few of the items being offered. Flu clinics
A children's flu clinic will be held Friday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Chippewa County Health Department. Patients are asked to enter through the Avery Square entrance. For more information, please call 906-253-3141. A flu clinic for the public who are at high risk will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at Bay Mills Health Center. This clinic is for the public over the age of 55; the public 2 to 64 years old with chronic diseases such as Diabetes, heart disease and asthma; pregnant women; health care personnel who provide direct care to patients; and household contacts and out-of-home caregivers to children less than 6 months old.
Fall Fit Bingo
Senior Health Fall Fit Bingo will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Armella Parker Senior Center at 10 a.m. Elders will play bingo and have free health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. Please call the Bay Mills Health Center at 906-248-5527, for more information.

The Health Center is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Before or after business hours, or during holidays, please call 906-248-5527. A voice message will instruct you to call 911 if it is an emergency. If you want to leave a message, please do so after the tone and the receptionist will return your call. If you require health services after business hours, please go to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. There is also an urgent care center located on site at the hospital.

Elders Exercise
Improving circulation, flexibility, and strength is important and possible regardless of age. Come join this safe and enjoyable exercise class. Elder Exercise is open to the public 50 and older at no cost. Classes for Women are held each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m., in the Waishkey Center gym.
Men's Class
This new class for men will start Monday, Sept. 26, and will be offered every Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m., in the Waishkey Center Gym. For more information or to sign up for class, please contact John Krentz at Bay Mills Community College at 906-248-3354, ext. 4195. /p>
Adult Water Exercise Class
This class will be held at Lake Superior State University every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6 to 6:50 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Transportation is provided. Elders can be picked up and dropped off at their home. We will depart from the Waishkey Center 45 minutes before class. Bay Mills elders and their spouses are free; there will be a $1 fee for each class attended by non-elders. Please note that we will not participate in either class if there is not enough interest!
