SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake State Theatre Company and Drama Club will bring Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" to the stage of the Lake Superior State University Arts Center for four shows in November.
The curtain for the LSSU production, directed by LSSU English and Communication Professor Gary Balfantz, will open at 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 3 through 5, and at 1:30 p.m., on Nov. 6. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for LSSU students and staff.
"We are very excited to be performing in the new theatre and are enjoying working with this classic American play," said Balfantz. "We're grateful to the many volunteers from campus and the community who are helping us create and produce the show. It's also exciting to see them enjoying their work. We can't wait for opening night."
Set in St. Louis in 1937, "The Glass Menagerie" is a tragedy about the Wingfield family. The action is brought to the audience through the memory of Tom Wingfield, who recalls the struggles his family went through after his father left them.
LSSU student Kyle Stockdale, of South Lyon, plays Tom, while Cassandra Hiller of Marquette plays his sister, Laura, and Vivien Holda Ross of Alpena plays their mother, Amanda. Adam Pinder of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., plays Tom's co-worker Jim.
Student Kayla Maxbauer of Peck is assisting Balfantz with the directing. Costumes for the production were put together by Cynthia Smith of Cedarville, who has been working with the group for a few years. This is her sixth time creating costumes for an LSSU production.
