
WHITEFISH POINT - They each came for different reasons, from all parts of the country - some to honor the lives of those relatives and friends lost upon the Great Lakes, others to witness history. The mood was somber as those attending the annual Mariners Memorial witnessed the Call to Last Watch ceremony held at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point on Thursday, Nov. 10.
"Thirty years ago tonight the Edmund Fitzgerald was struggling," said Tom Farnquist, Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society director, in opening remarks. "What happened to the Fitzgerald? That questioned is still not answered today."
