HR Department announces health care changes

BAY MILLS - The Human Resources Department recently announced the new Health Insurance plan will effective Jan. 1, 2006. The new plan, Flexible Blue Plan 2, continues to provide quality health coverage with the employer still covering 100 percent of the premium costs.

The decision was made to change from Healthy Blue 70 which required a 70 percent/30 percent co-pay, to a deductible based option through Blue Cross/Blue Shield with the tribe paying for 100 percent of the premiums. There will be no co-pay under this Flexible Blue plan; however, employees will be responsible for meeting a $1,250 single/ $2,500 two person and family deductible for all in-network medical services. Dental and vision optional coverage will continue under this plan as well, with slight increases in the premiums. All employees needing to add a spouse or dependant to their health coverage, or who want to pick up or drop dental and vision from their coverage must submit changes during open enrollment.

Open enrollment runs from Dec. 12 through Dec. 23. Changes, such as the birth of a child or marriage, are accepted throughout the calendar year if reported within 30 days of the event.

All eligible employees will automatically be enrolled in Flexible Blue Plan 2, effective Jan. 1, 2006. Those interested in learning more about this health plan, or other benefit changes made for the 2006 calendar year, should attend one of the informational seminars put on by the Human Resources Department.
