Elders vote to cap utility payments at $300K

BAY MILLS - Due to the rising costs of elders' utility payments and the rising number of elders who are having their utilities paid for by the tribe, the Bay Mills Senior Council overwhelmingly voted to put a $300,000 cap on the amount elders would receive. According to Bay Mills Elders Council President Michael "Mickey" Parish, establishing a $300,000 cap was necessary to reign in on the exorbitant spending, adding that 2004's expenses alone were up more than $300,000 than they were in 2001.
