"Walk for Your Life" fitness program on tap

The Department of Recreation and Health Promotion in conjunction with Community Health will be hosting a "Walk for Your Life" Fitness Program.

The goal of this program is to challenge participants to increase physical activity or daily steps by 20 percent each week. Physical activity will be measured by a pedometer, which will be provided to all participants.

This year's program will include group work out sessions, nutritional and educational informational meetings, and therapeutic stretching by appointment. There will also be incentive prizes awarded throughout this program.

The cost of this program is $5 per person. Each person will be required to complete a Health Questionnaire, Goal Sheet, and a pre and post Personal Assessment Survey. It is also recommended that all participants obtain a non-invasive body composition before and after the program.

The "Walk for Your Life" Fitness Program will run for 8 weeks starting on Monday, Feb. 6 and is open to everyone including children with parental supervision.

Registration will be held during the week of January 30 through Feb.ruary 2. Stop by the Department of Recreation and Health Promotion to get all the necessary paperwork and your pedometer.

The first initial meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Waishkey Center. This will be an informational meeting about the program and will also include health screening (cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar) by the Community Health Department.
