Ellis named manager of local credit union
BRIMLEY - Tammy Ellis was recently named manager of the Soo Co-Op Credit Union's Brimley branch. She assumed the duties of exited branch manager Ruby Campeau on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Campeau, who accepted a job at SCCU's main office as their new compliance officer, will be in charge of keeping up with governmental affairs and regulations for the credit union.

Ellis learned of her promotion after she was called into the main office in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., for an unexpected meeting with SCCU Chief Executive Officer and President Dan Hewitt. Having never been asked to meet at the main branch before, Ellis said she was a little surprised by the request. Upon her arrival, Hewitt informed Ellis that Campeau had accepted another position and said he wanted her to take her spot. While she admits she was shocked, she nonetheless accepted the offer.

"I was definitely surprised," Ellis said of her unexpected job offer. "It feels good to know they have the confidence in me to give me this position. I'm very excited to have this opportunity."

According Hewitt, the decision to promote Ellis to manager was not a hard choice to make. She is well-loved by the community and all who know and work with her, said Hewitt, and he was excited to offer her the job.

"We're really excited to give her this opportunity," Hewitt said of Ellis' recent promotion. "She's a wonderful asset to the credit union. And by moving her up, she will become even more of an asset to us. All of our members [in Bay Mills and Brimley] love her."

Ellis, a 1985 Brimley graduate, has been working for the credit union for nine years, serving as assistant branch manager for the past five. While her new position will provide her with a bigger office and allow her more authority. Ellis said that the community should not expect any big changes from her. She still thinks spending the majority of her time up front with her coworkers is better than being stuck behind a desk.

"I love working here," she said. "The community is awesome - Bay Mills and Brimley. We've got a really good team here. Everyone works well together."
