BAY MILLS - Staff at the Bay Mills Community College Library are reminding the community that the college library is also a public library.
Rick Elder, Patti Teeple, and Morris Hightower emphasized that the following services are available at the library to members of the general public:
Twenty Internet-capable computers on the main floor;
Knowledgeable staff that can help with searchable databases such as Wilson-Select and First search;
The ability to order books from across the Upper Peninsula twice a week through a U.P.-wide inter-library loan program with about a one-week turn around time.
Another benefit to users is that the library recently became an independent affiliated member of the Hiawathaland Library Cooperative. Now BMCC students, upon presenting their student identification card, can receive a free library card from Bayliss Library in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. This policy concerning a Bayliss Library Patron card also applies to all residents of Bay Mills Township, Superior Township, and Bay Mills Indian Community.
The library recently subscribed to the Oshkaabewis Native Journal, which features Ojibwe stores and scholarly articles about Ojibwe people. The journal is edited by renowned Ojibwe author, Anton Treuer, and is a valuable resource for those interested in Ojibwe culture.
