Medical Clinic issues reminders to patients
Emergency Room Treatment
If the Bay Mills Clinic is open you will need to seek services at the clinic before going to the emergency room. Failure to do so may result in non-payment of your emergency room visit. Emergency room services are covered for all eligible Bay Mills members provided the patient or family notifies the Contract Health Services Administrator no more than 72 hours after the date of service (30-day rule applies for the elderly). The voucher issued for this type of service will be mailed to the appropriate hospital. (This is the only service that allows mailing of vouchers.) If the patient or patient's family fails to notify the CHS Administrator within the 72-hour frame, the bills associated with the visit may not be the responsibility of CHS. You may receive several bills which are associated with one E.R. visit, i.e., separate physician and x-ray bills. These will be mailed directly to the patient. It is the patient's responsibility to deliver these bills to the CHS office for payment to be made.
Referral policy
The Bay Mills Medical Clinic will strive to provide the best quality health care to each patient it serves. However, the referral policy states that when you come into the Ellen Marshall Clinic for medical and dental services and the clinic cannot provide the necessary services required for treatment, the tribal physicians can refer you to a specialist in which a voucher and written referral must be obtained. In all cases, a voucher must be authorized for any and all referred visits prior to the date of service. Failure to obtain a voucher prior to the delivery of service may result in denial of payment by the Contract Health Services program. Vouchers must be picked up from the CHS Administrator and taken to the referred physician prior to or on the date of the appointment. Mailing of vouchers to patients or providers is discouraged.
