Community members pack Brimley school board meeting to address controversial comments

BRIMLEY - Members of the Bay Mills Indian Community as well as Brimley area residents packed the regularly scheduled board meeting of the Brimley Board of Education on Monday, Feb. 20, in anticipation of an apology from board member Cindy Ojala.

Ojala has been in the forefront of controversy within the community over comments she made at the Jan. 16 board meeting concerning the issue of pow wows being held in the school district. [more]



Bay Mills Executive Council meets to discuss business
Ray Baragwanath of Bay Mart approached the board for approval of his budget. He said that the sales figures had been hard to predict because the price of gas had been fluctuating so drastically, adding that in 2005 he overspent by $58,000. [more]

Turtle Concepts visits Ojibwe Charter School

For the second year, Turtle Concepts came to Bay Mills. On Thursday, March 2, the group encouraged youth to make better choices about issues such as smoking, sex and behavior. [more]
