Friez accepted into University of Mary in BismarckBRIMLEY - Brimley Area Schools Senior Nicholas Friez is one of hundreds of new students about to pursue a degree at the University of Mary, America's Leadership University in Bismarck, starting the fall semester of 2006.

"We welcome these new freshmen to our growing University of Mary family and are proud to have them participate in an innovative values-based, hands-on, learning experience," said University of Mary president, Sister Thomas Welder. "The University of Mary is intent on contributing to the economic vitality of North Dakota. We prepare our most important resource - the next generation of leaders."

Friez, the son of Curt and Denice Friez of Brimley, is active in football and weightlifting for the Bays. He has earned honors as the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference's "Offensive Player of the Year," "Most Improved Lineman," and as a member of the honor roll. Friez plans to major in biology and play football for the Marauders under the tutelage of Head Coach Myron Schulz. The Marauder athletic program is a new member of the NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The University of Mary, America's Leadership University, was founded in 1959 by the Benedictine Sisters of the Annunciation and is one of the region's fastest growing universities and the state's only private, Catholic university. It offers 34 undergraduate degrees, six master's degrees, and 19 varsity sports to over 2,500 students.
