Local students place in Regional Science Fair

Local students place in Regional Science Fair
The following is a list of winners at the 2006 Brimley Area Schools Science Fair. First through third place projects in each grade advanced to the Regional Science Fair which was held at Lake Superior State Unversity on Thursday, March 16.

THIRD GRADE
First - Jeanette Shaffer; second- Kitty Breen; third- Shelby Noyce; Honorable Mention- Emily Chartrand and Miishen Willis.

FOURTH GRADE
First - Zach Phillips; second- Michael Pomeroy; third- Caleb McKerchie; Honorable Mention- Jared Baragwanath and Samantha Randle.

FIFTH GRADE
First - Kyle Friez; second - Sarah Bryer; third -Brandon Carrick; Honorable Mention - Greg Matheny, Tyler Postma and Kyle Root.

SIXTH GRADE
First - Kelsey Bland; second - Christina McKerchie; third - Sydney Beaune; Honorable Mention - Megan Parish, Lance Piche and Elijah Searcy.

SEVENTH GRADE
First- Nicole Chesebro; second - Kelli Miller; third-Shelby Leapley; Honorable Mention: Robert Hebeeb and Johnathon Wilson.

EIGHTH GRADE
First - Nathan Chesebro; second- Cassie Wilcox; third- Keith Swendsen; Honorable Mention- Molly Kilgore, Ty Root and Sammy Synett.

Overall winners for the science fair were - first place (tie): Nathan Chesebro (eighth grade) for bridge design and Kelsey Bland (sixth grade) for DNA extraction; second place: Nicole Chesebro (seventh grade) for butterfly emergence; third place: Christina McKerchie (sixth grade) for toothpaste testing; honorable mention: Gordon Andrews (first grade) on dog treat preference, Chris Forrest (second grade) popcorn project, Kyle Friez (fifth grade) effect of video games on heart rate, and Jeanette Shaffer (third grade) for insulating fabrics project.

The following students placed in the Regional Science Fair competition for their projects:

FIRST GRADE
First - Madison Wilkie, DeTour Area Schools; second - Cameron Livingston, DeTour Area Schools; third - Mikayla Scott, DeTour Area Schools

SECOND GRADE
First - Millie Reed, DeTour Area Schools; second - Jake Dudek, DeTour Area Schools; third - Tyler Soule, DeTour Area Schools

THIRD GRADE
First - Jeanette Shaffer, Brimley Area Schools; second- Alexandra Cabello, Moran Township School District; third - Kitty Breen, Brimley Area Schools

FOURTH GRADE
First - Nick Chevillot, Sault Area Schools (Washington); second - Alexis Clow, Sault Area Schools (Lincoln); third - Emily O'Connor, St. Mary's

FIFTH GRADE
First - Samer Alkhalili, St. Mary's; second- Kaitlyn Thomas, Sault Area Schools (Washington); third - Jayson Aikens, Sault Area Schools (Washington)

SIXTH GRADE
First - Kelsey Bland, Brimley Area Schools ; second - Louis Radecki, Moran Township School District; third- Jeffry Misner, Moran Township School District

SEVENTH GRADE
First - Nicole Chesebro, Brimley Area Schools; second - Natasha Kangas, JKL Bahweting School; third - Marquita Wilds, St. Mary's School

EIGHTH GRADE
First - Brad Smith, Moran Township School; second-Cassie Wilcox, Brimley Area Schools; third - Nathan Chesebro, Brimley Area Schools

All first place winners were awarded with a $50 savings bond (donated by Central Savings Bank), a trophy and a certificate. All second place winners were awarded with plaques and certificates and all third place winners were awarded with medals and certificates.
