SPRING IS IN THE AIR! - Lake Superior State University bid adieu to winter on Monday, March 20, marking the first official day of spring with the 36th annual snowman burning.
LSSU's Student Government directed the snowman burning effort. While the snowman burned, members of Student Government grilled hot dogs for the enjoyment of warm-weather-worshipers.
Former LSSU Public Relations Director Bill Rabe adapted snowman burning to LSSU in 1971 after finding a similar ceremony in Germany. The annual event is always popular in the Eastern U.P. and northern Ontario, although attendance varies with the weather.
