Boys & Girls Club announces spring break hours
The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills hours for Spring Break will be Monday, March 27 through Friday, March 31 from 12 to 5 p.m. Evening activities are scheduled to continue only for those participating in wrestling, boxing, dance club, garden club, and P.R.I.D.E., but may be subject to change. Animal shelter seeking donations
The Chippewa County Animal Shelter is in urgent need of the following items: cat litter (any brand, but please non-scoopable); kitten and cat food (dry, any brand); bleach; baking soda; litter boxes; litter box scoopers; dishwasher detergent; cat and dog treats; dog leashes (six feet or longer). Low Income Energy Assistance Program available
Low Income Energy Assistance is available. To apply you must bring all income-related documents for anyone over the age of 18 living in the household. Income includes wages, SSI, child support, FIA assistance, pension, unemployment, self-employment and GA assistance. Applications are being taken at the commodity food warehouse. If you receive assistance from the Family Independence Agency you must provide a denial letter from their office. The 2006 Inter-Tribal Council LIEAP income guidelines is as follows: one-person household - $21,404; two-person household - $27,990; three-person - $34,575; four-person -$41,161. GED classes offered at BMCC
GED stands for General Education Development and in order to obtain a GED certificate students will need to pass five basic skills tests, covering writing skills, social sciences, science, literature and mathematics.
GED preparation classes are offered at Bay Mills Community College in partnership with Consolidated Community School Services. This particular program averages 51 students per academic year.
After preparing academically for the GED test, students will practice by taking sample tests. At this time an appointment date and time is made with the official test site for the GED test. In Michigan, a student must have a total minimum score of 2,250 points to obtain their GED. This means a student must score an average of 450 points on each test.
Students must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in this program. Classes are Monday through Thursday, 12 to 4 p.m., in the log cabin library on the BMCC campus. For many students a GED certificate can be their first step towards a better future.

Community Quilters to meet

Bay Mills Pow Wow scheduled
The Bay Mills Indian Community will be hosting its 15th annual Honoring Our Veterans Competition Pow Wow on Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11 at the Bay Mills ball field in Brimley. There will be more than $30,000 in dance and drum prize money (proof of tribal membership required to compete). Native American vendors only, call for rates. Volunteer open house slated for March 29
The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills will be hosting its first Volunteer Open House on Wednesday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m. In order to accommodate the growing membership, new programs, and club changes, volunteers are being sought. Three Lakes Group to meet
Three Lakes Group, the local chapter of the Sierra Club, will host a program on America's National Parks presented by David Kronck, education director at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The program will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 at Lake Superior State University in Crawford Hall, Room 305. Everyone is welcome to this free program.

Beadwork class being held at Cultural Lodge
The Bay Mills Indian Community Gnoozhekaaning Cultural Program is holding a beadwork class each Monday at the Cultural Lodge from 6 to 9 p.m. Instructing the class will be Becky Munz. Everyone is welcome to join; children must be accompanied by an adult. Sault Summer Arts Festival
Sault Summer Arts Festival will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1 on the grounds of Tendercare Nursing Homes Michigan headquarters. It is open to original work that is displayed by the creating artist. Jury is by color slides, digital images (three slides for each category entered - five for jewelers) or in hand. No work from commercial molds, patterns, kits or copies is acceptable. Jury deadline is June 1, 2006. Space fee for non-members of Sault Area Arts Council is $65 for a 10' by 10' space. The festival is an outdoor show, held rain or shine. No electricity is available. The festival is produced annually by the Sault Area Arts Council and is in its 34th year.
Lions Club hosting non-smoking bingo
Each Monday, the Lions Club will be hosting a non-smoking bingo at the Strongs Town Hall on M-28, three miles east of the Eckerman intersection, from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open.
Eye appointment information provided
Tribal members who need to schedule an eye appointment should call Tweek at the Ellen Marshall Center at 906-248-5527 or 5578, ext. 3166. If Tweek is not available, please leave your name and phone number so she can call you back. Medicaid patients can set up their own appointment by calling Dr. Johnson at 906-635-9600. If you cannot make your eye appointment, please call Dr. Johnson's office or Tweek to cancel within 48 hours so that another patient can take your place. In the past month, there have been a lot of "no shows." Dr. Johnson may charge the patient for their time slot if they do not cancel within a 48-hour time period. Bay Mills CHS program will not cover this charge.

Wellness Clinics
The next Well Women's Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11. The next Well Man's Clinic will be held Tuesday, April 4.
