Wild Turkey Season changed
The Bay Mills Spring wild turkey season has changed from beginning on April 25 to beginning on April 17. It will continue to run until May 31. The fall season remains the same, continuing from Aug. 1 thru Dec. 31.
Animal shelter seeking donations
The Chippewa County Animal Shelter is in urgent need of the following items: cat litter (any brand, but please non-scoopable); kitten and cat food (dry, any brand); bleach; baking soda; litter boxes; litter box scoopers; dishwasher detergent; cat and dog treats; dog leashes (six feet or longer). Brimley Head Start Open House set
Register your child for the Brimley Head Start Program for the 2006-2007 school year at the Open House scheduled for April 26 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Brimley Head Start Center located in St. Francis Xavier Church Hall in Brimley, Mich. You must bring your child's birth certificate and shot records, and parents' proof of income. You do not need to bring your child for registration. Bay Mills Pow Wow scheduled
The Bay Mills Indian Community will be hosting its 15th annual Honoring Our Veterans Competition Pow Wow on Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11 at the Bay Mills ball field in Brimley. There will be more than $30,000 in dance and drum prize money (proof of tribal membership required to compete). Native American vendors only, call for rates. Beadwork class being held at Cultural Lodge
The Bay Mills Indian Community Gnoozhekaaning Cultural Program is holding a beadwork class each Monday at the Cultural Lodge from 6 to 9 p.m. Instructing the class will be Becky Munz. Everyone is welcome to join; children must be accompanied by an adult. A women's hand drum class will be held each Wednesday at the BMIC Cultural Lodge from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information call Lance Teeple at 906-437-4372.
Lions Club hosting non-smoking bingo
Each Monday, the Lions Club will be hosting a non-smoking bingo at the Strongs Town Hall on M-28, three miles east of the Eckerman intersection, from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open.
Eye appointment information provided
Tribal members who need to schedule an eye appointment should call Tweek at the Ellen Marshall Center at 906-248-5527 or 5578, ext. 3166. If Tweek is not available, please leave your name and phone number so she can call you back. Medicaid patients can set up their own appointment by calling Dr. Johnson at 906-635-9600. If you cannot make your eye appointment, please call Dr. Johnson's office or Tweek to cancel within 48 hours so that another patient can take your place. In the past month, there have been a lot of "no shows." Dr. Johnson may charge the patient for their time slot if they do not cancel within a 48-hour time period. Bay Mills CHS program will not cover this charge.
WIC office at Bay Mills
The WIC office will be at the Armella B. Parker Senior Center on the fourth Thursday of each month. Call 635-3572 for an appointment.
Wellness Clinics
The next Well Women's Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11. All clinics are at the Bay Mills Health Center and run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wendy Jamros, CFNP, and Craig Caldwell, D.O., will be available. Please mark your calendars and call 248-5527 to schedule an appointment.
