History Department seeking information
The Bay Mills Indian Community History Department is interested in finding more information on the construction of the new section of Lakeshore Drive represented by the dotted line. The road originally circled down the Dump road, around the Taylor farm and back out to Lakeshore Drive.

We believe that it was constructed by the CCC-ID (Civilian Conservation Corps- Indian Division) in or about 1939. The Indian Divisions operated an extensive road-building program in and around many reserations during that time.

We believe that Jack Kinney worked on the road hauling sand. He was the first to actually drive through it when he dumped his sand and continued on through with his truck.

Agnes Carrick told us that when she was a young girl having just moved to the "Farms" area around 1939, she and her friends would take a shortcut to the Mission through there.
