Police department to purchase new equipment

BAY MILLS - The Bay Mills Police department will be utilizing a Justice Assistance Grant for the purchase of equipment for the patrol vehicles, which will help Bay Mills police officers protect the community. The equipment will be digital in-car cameras and new radar units.

The cameras are necessary to show the events that occur when the police are dealing with the public. The radar unit will ensure that those driving on the community's streets obey the speed laws. The use of the new equipment should result in the community feeling safer.

The new digital in-car cameras and radar units will be installed in each of the patrol vehicles at a total cost of $10,434.00. This is a non-matching grant. The request was submitted to the Bay Mills Executive Council on April 4, 2006.

Anyone wishing to comment or discuss the Justice Assistance Grant should contact Sergeant Phillip Donnay at 906-248-3244.
