BAY MILLS - The TRiO SSS Spring Retreat and Recognition Ceremony for 2006 was held on April 26 at the Horizon's Conference Center in Bay Mills Resort and Casino. Keynote speakers for the event were Troy and Karen Stende of Stende Inspirations. (Troy was the winner of the best campus speaker in 2002, 2004, and 2005.)
Graduatiing TRiO students were honored, as were those with 3.5 GPA's or higher and those who have done 10 or more volunteer hours through TRiO this year. Also, speaking were Mickey Parish, president of Bay Mills Community College; Debbie LeBlanc, director of TRiO SSS; Nikki Dowd, TRiO advisor; Kelsey Belleville, BMCC's TRiO Student Leader of the Year and Mike Brown, who was selected to participate in the TRiO 2006 International Leadership Training Program,"Shared Journeys: Identity, Heritage and Empowerment," sponsored by the Council for Opportunity in Education and the University of Liverpool. Brown was nominated by LeBlanc and will be going to Liverpool, London, Derry, Cologne, Antwerp, and Amsterdam. He departs on June 10 after an orientation in Philadelphia with other students selected too and will return on July 2.
