War Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers

SAULT STE. MARIE - War Memorial Hospital is looking for community members to help with some new and existing volunteer opportunities throughout the hospital. The Helping Hands program will soon start to offer volunteer assistance on the nursing floors, in surgery, and in the emergency room. Self-motivated individuals willing to greet people and assist staff and customers are encouraged to apply.

According to a press release from War Memorial Hospital, some of the new opportunities involve sitting with patients, walking with patients, assisting patients in wheel chairs on and off the unit, visiting with patients who do not have family, assisting staff with gathering patient supplies (such as pharmacy, or materials management), passing water and coffee, making copies and stickering charts, greeting patients and families upon arrival to the nursing areas, and acting as liaisons in the waiting room.

To sign up to be a clinical volunteer, or for more information, call Theresa Mills (pager 777-3386) or Debbie Green at 906-635-4352.
