Animal shelter seeks donations
The Chippewa County Animal Shelter is in urgent need of the following items: cat litter (any brand, but please non-scoopable); kitten and cat food (dry, any brand); bleach; baking soda; litter boxes; litter box scoopers; dishwasher detergent; cat and dog treats; dog leashes (six feet or longer). War Memorial seeks volunteers
War Memorial Hospital is looking for self-motivated individuals, who are willing to greet people and assist staff, to sign up for volunteer opportunities throughout the hospital. The Helping Hands program will soon offer assistance on the nursing floors, in surgery, and the emergency room. Spring feast to be held May 7
Bay Mills Gnoozhekaaning spring feast and ceremony will be held on May 7 at 3 p.m. at the Bay Mills Cultural Lodge. A pipe ceremony and speakers will be followed by a potluck feast. Bring your tobacco and a dish to share! Everyone is welcome. For more information call 906-437-4372.
Liquidation Auction on May 6
Calling all garage sale buffs: Bay Mills Homemakers are planning their Spring Cleaning Liquidation Auction Fundraiser for Sat., May 6 at the Bay Mills Township Hall. The event is open to the public and runs from noon to 4 p.m. Included will be a 50/50 raffle, bake sale, and hot dogs. Household goods will be accepted from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, with the exception of clothing and large appliances or large furniture pieces. Brimley Area School Pow Wow to be held
Brimley Area Schools will host the second annual homecoming pow wow on Friday, May 12. The public and traders are encouraged to attend this event. The pow wow will take place outside of the school weather permitting or inside the middle school gymnasium, from 1 to 3 p.m. A $1 donation is being asked of those who attend. All funds raised will be donated to the Bay Mills Honoring Our Veterans Pow Wow, which will take place this summer. Community Quilters to meet
The Community Quilters will meet on Saturday, May 20 in the Waishkey Center. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend. The group makes quilts to be donated to local emergency service departments, needy individuals in the local community as well as the Bay Mills tribal social services dept. They are presently asking for donations of new cotton or flannel fabric, quilt batting, and a usable quilting frame. For more information call Dotty at 906-437-4313.
Basketball tournament to be held May 6 and 7
The 9th Annual Intertribal Basketball Tournament will be held on May 6 and 7. Registration is $100 per team. Final registration is April 24. There will be no coed division this year. Team categories are: 12-14 male; 12-14 female; 15-17 male; 15-17 female; 18 and up male; and 18 and up female. A volunteer is also being sought to organize a Bay Mills team for the 12-14 age bracket. Boats to be blessed
Father Al Mott of Blessed Kateri Catholic Church extends a personal invitation to you and your family to participate in a Blessing of the Boats on Saturday, May 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the docking slips near the Bay Mills Resort and Casino. Father Al will bless the boats of tribal fishers as well as any sports fishers who may be interested in attending. An outdoor feast will follow immediately after the Blessing of the Boats at the same location. The congregation at Blessed Kateri prays for the safety of tribal and sports fishers every Sunday, said Father Al, and he invites everyone to join him in this very special ceremony.
Softball tourney scheduled
A benefit softball tournament will be held May 27 and May 28 at the Bay Mills ball field. All divisions, three home run limit, entry fee of $110. All money raised will be used for Shane Cameron's scholarship fund for the U.S. Baseball Stars Association trip to the Dominican Republic in December of 2006. Bay Mills Pow Wow scheduled
The Bay Mills Indian Community will be hosting its 15th Annual Honoring Our Veterans Competition Pow Wow on Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11 at the Bay Mills ball field in Brimley. There will be more than $30,000 in dance and drum prize money (proof of tribal membership required to compete). Native American vendors only, call for rates. Beadwork class being held at Cultural Lodge
The Bay Mills Indian Community Gnoozhekaaning Cultural Program is holding a beadwork class each Monday at the Cultural Lodge from 6 to 9 p.m. Instructing the class will be Becky Munz. Everyone is welcome to join; children must be accompanied by an adult. A women's hand drum class will be held each Wednesday at the BMIC Cultural Lodge from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information call Lance Teeple at 906-437-4372.
Traditional practitioner to visit
John Witherspoon, traditional Ojibwe practitioner, will visit the Bay Mills Cultural Lodge from Sunday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 10. He will be able to see people for private appointments and to conduct lodges during his visit. To schedule call 906-437-4372.
Lions Club hosting non-smoking bingo
Each Monday, the Lions Club will be hosting a non-smoking bingo at the Strongs Town Hall on M-28, three miles east of the Eckerman intersection, from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open.

Tribal members who need to schedule an eye appointment should call Tweek at the Ellen Marshall Center at 906-248-5527 or 5578, ext. 3166. If Tweek is not available, please leave your name and phone number so she can call you back. Medicaid patients can set up their own appointment by calling Dr. Johnson at 906-635-9600.
WIC office at Bay Mills
The WIC office will be at the Armella B. Parker Senior Center on the fourth Thursday of each month. Call 635-3572 for an appointment.
Wellness Clinic
The next Well Child Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, and the next Well Woman's Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23. All clinics are at the Bay Mills Health Center and will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wendy Jamros, CFNP, and Craig Caldwell, D.O., will be available.
