Looking at the Parish family ties and history

Bay Mills tribal member Ruth Parish recently brought in old family photographs to Bay Mills News to share with the community. Two of the subjects are unknown to her. Anyone who can identify them is asked to call the newspaper at 906-248-2258.

Looking at the Parish family ties and history

Looking at the Parish family ties and historyThe first photo (above) is of three brothers, all commercial fishermen and dredgemen. Back row: (L-R) Percy Parish (Ruth's father) and an unknown man. Front row: (L-R) Mel Parish and Harry Parish. Ruth estimates the photo was taken sometime in the 1920s.

At right is a photo of Ruth's cousin, Gary Parish, the oldest son of Mel and Josephine Parish. He was born in 1932 and died as a young boy in 1941 of chronic ear infection.

Below, is Hannah-Mae Sowers holding an unknown child. Her daughter, Jenny Menominee Daigle, was the mother of Mary Daigle, who married Percy Parish. Ruth is their daughter. She thinks this photo also was taken in the 1920s.
