During their 2006 graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 28, 2006, Brimley Area Schools recognized the following seniors for maintaining a 3.0 GPA throughout their high school career and awarded them honor cords: Michael Cole, Heather Fegan, Ryan Holdsworth, Hannah Hope, Katelynd Kingsbury, Molly McIntyre, Rachel Osborn, and Robin Sutton.
This year's senior class of 34 students received over $93,000 in scholarship and grant monies, of which $5,800 was donated by local individuals, organizations, and businesses. Faculty and staff of Brimley Area Schools would like to thank all of those who donated to the various local scholarships and congratulate the winners.

The third annual winner of the Brimley Area Education Foundation is Katelynd Kingsbury. This award was established in 2004; the foundation is part of the Chippewa County Community Foundation. It is a non-profit organization, created for the sole purpose of raising and allocating funds for educational projects, which are above and beyond those included in the Brimley Area Schools' operating budget. The scholarship was established to recognize outstanding achievement and community service by a graduating senior of Brimley High School. Funds for the $500 scholarship are provided by donations made to the foundation.
Winners of the eighth annual Lions Club Scholarships of $500 each are Kyle Fierstien, Hannah Hope, and Kelly Waybrant. This scholarship was first presented in 1999. Monies were raised as a result of fundraising activities by the club over many years. Recipients must be persons who have been accepted at an accredited university, college, or technical school, and rank in the top one-third of the graduating class. The Lions Club serves its community and wants its recipients to also participate in community activities.
The second winner of the Matthew Ian Brunk Memorial Scholarship is Molly McIntyre. This scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of Matthew Brunk.
Winners of the 14th annual Chippewa County Telephone Company Scholarships for $500 each are Katelynd Kingsbury and Robin Sutton. In 1993, Walter J. Wilson and his wife of Brimley, Mich. began the scholarship fund to help encourage and assist students interested in higher education. The current owners, Hiawatha Communications, Inc. of Munising, Mich. are continuing this tradition. The scholarships are awarded to students who have maintained good academic achievement throughout high school (3.5 GPA or higher), exhibit personal ambition to succeed, financial consideration, and three letters of recommendation.
Kyle Fierstien is this year's winner of the $250 Eastern Upper Peninsula Counselors Association Scholarship. It was established to recognize a deserving student from the tri-county area who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT composite score of 20. Money for this scholarship is raised by the E.U.P. high school and middle school counselors.
The winner of the sixth annual Gordon A. Newland Scholarship is Raelene Menominee. This scholarship was first awarded in 2001 to recognize Newland's 35 years of service to the people of the Brimley Area School district and Chippewa County. It was his wish to honor a young person who feels a similar sense of responsibility for the betterment of their community.
Winner of the first National Office Products and Printing Scholarship is Heather Fegan. The company established a scholarship this year in appreciation of local support for their business. Their desire is to contribute back to the community and support local students attending Lake Superior State University. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has attained a 3.0 GPA or better and will attend LSSU. Preference will be given to a student planning to major in Business or Graphic Arts. This year, the company has awarded $3,500 in scholarships to area students.
Patricia Hopper is the winner of the Fifth Annual Karl Parker Memorial Scholarship, which was created in 2002 in honor of the former Brimley High School coach, teacher, and principal. His dedication to the sport of basketball earned his induction into both the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame and the Brimley Alumni Hall of Fame. The recipient will continue their education in post secondary schooling. The selection shall be based on participation in and dedication to the sport of boy's or girl's high school basketball in Brimley.
Winner of the Fourth Annual Armand Tremblay Memorial Scholarship is Ryan Holdsworth. This scholarship was created in 2003 in honor of a former Brimley High School student who lived in Brimley all his life. In 1950, Tremblay joined the Army as a paratrooper and was stationed in Korea. He made 36 jumps and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He returned home to Brimley in 1953, where he was very active in the Brimley Lions Club and church activities. He worked for the DSSNA and Soo Line railroads for 39 years, retiring as a section foreman. In 1984, Tremblay rode his horse from the Brimley VFW Post to Seattle, Wash., raising over $10,000 for the Diabetes Association. He was married for 48 years to Louise Tremblay; together, they raised seven children, all of whom attended Brimley Area Schools. This scholarship was initiated in his memory. The selection of the recipient is based on future goals, letters of recommendation, community service, and financial need.
Rachel Osborn won the Fourth Annual Dorothy Wilson Memorial Scholarship, which was established in 2003 by her family in memory of her life. Wilson was very involved in community service and believed everyone has a duty of involvement.
