With the most recent warm spell, we have already had an excellent growing season and Wednesday afternoon from 5:15 until 7:15 p.m. just got better. The Sault Ste. Marie Farmer's Market is up and running for the 2006 season. Again this year you can purchase some of the best, freshest and tastiest produce in the E.U.P. You will not only recognize good food, you will see your friends that raise your food, too. Thanks to all of you for making this such a wonderful market. You can expect the freshest produce this side of the St. Mary's River in addition to a wide selection of sourdough breads from the North Star Bakery, Dutcher's chickens, farm fresh eggs, locally raised beef, and Jeannie's frozen pasties.
Please come down and reacquaint yourself with your friends that raise your food. In addition to local producers you have a whole host of characters that show up at the market as well. Which brings me to our next topic - how to become involved in the Sault Ste. Marie Farmer's Market. If you have never been down here before, now is the time to venture at 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 Wednesday evenings to the corner parking lot at Maple and Ashmun to be a part of the weekly festivities.
The Sault Ste Marie Farmer's Market is an organization of producers that have strict criteria for entry into the market. The produce you sell in the market must be grown by you (or a family member) in the E.U.P. region. All perspective vendors must submit an application to the Market Master and be reviewed by the Board. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, let us know. We are also looking for musicians for the market. Do you have a CD to sell? Need spare change? Bring down your instrument to entertain the vendors and set out your hat. We have a few musicians already, but there is still time to sign up for a spot.
We also need volunteers in the Sault Ste. Marie Farmer's Market to help with setup, help with the food stamps machine and answer customers' questions. If you would like to hang out with the wonderful folks that raise your food, please give Jim Lucas a call at 909-635-6368 or lucasj@msu.edu.
Come to the Sault Ste. Marie Farmer's Market for homegrown food and hometown values.
