Mission Statement
The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills is a local, autonomous affiliate of the Boys & Girls Club of American, whose mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, caring citizens.

As an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Club of America since September of 2001, the Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills is a part of a 140-year-old “Movement” of over 3000 clubs, serving over 4 million girls and boys. Our club, as in the case with Boys & Girls clubs in the U.S., is a completely autonomous organization with a local board of directors.

Core Program Areas
Boys & Girls Club provides diverse activities that meet the interest of all youth. Core Programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential. Based on physical, emotional, cultural and social needs and interest of boys and girls, and recognizing developing principals, clubs offer program activities in five areas

  • Character and Leadership Development

  • Education and Career Development

  • Health and Life Skills

  • The Arts/Cultural Development

  • Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Late Penalty
It is often difficult to maintain a balance between work and family, and the staff of the Boys & Girls Club understands these difficulties. Due to the fact that the club is a non-profit/non-fee based program, the club is unable to afford staffing cost beyond its hours of operation. Please help us maintain the quality of the Boys & Girls Club program by picking up and dropping off your children within our hours of operation. Please arrange for your child’s transportation to and from the club ahead of time so that he/she will not need to call for rides.

The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills, in tradition with the Boys & Girls Club of America, are not licensed day care and therefore cannot be used for such purposes.

There is a late penalty program that will be applied if club members are not picked up on time. For every 5 minutes you are late to pick up your child, the parent will be charged $2.00 for up to 15 minutes, after which the parent will be charged $1.00 per minute. Unfortunately, your child will be unable to return to the club until the late fee penalty is paid.

Medication Policy

The Boys & Girls Club, by board policy does not disperse any type of medication to club members and will not allow medications to be brought on the premise by club members. If your child has a prescription, please make arrangements to give the medication to your child personally at the club.

Open Door Policy
The Boys & Girls Club Open Door Policy allows club members to arrive and depart at any time during the clubs’ hours of operation. Club members are required to sign in and out each day.

Once a club member has left the building or grounds, they may not return that day unless prior arrangements have been made by parents/guardians with the Boys & Girls Club staff. The Boys & Girls Club is an at-will club for school aged youth from the ages of 5 to 18, and wishes to allow club members the freedom to walk or drive themselves to the club if necessary. We do however, pay close attention to younger members who are exiting the building and will place a call home. If there is a person or persons that you do not wish to pick up your children, please designate that on the membership application.

If a child does not go to school they may not attend the Boys & Girls Club that day. Arrangements can be made by parents with B&G staff in cases such as leaving school early or arriving late at school for dentist/doctor appointments, etc.

Field Trips
To participate in any off-site field trips, club members must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian prior to each trip. If there is not a signed permission slip turned in prior to a trip, then the club member will not be allowed to attend the function.

Immediate membership suspension may be considered without three strikes for the following:

  • Smoking or any type of tobacco products on club premises or field trip activities.

  • Use of alcohol or illegal substance on club premises or field trip activities.

  • Possession of contraband (i.e. handcuffs, knives, razor blades, cigarette lighters or any item that has an intended use as a weapon).

  • Physical violence or any threats of physical violence to other club members or club staff.

  • Sexual harassment.

  • Theft. (Club members are responsible for the safety of their own personal property and the Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills cannot be held liable).

  • Extreme verbal abuse of other club members or staff.

The staff of the Boys & Girls Club will determine the amount of time a member is suspended based on the severity of inappropriate behavior. If a member attends the club while on suspension, they will be sent home.

If a club member is suspended, they are not allowed to attend or participate in special event activities or field trips.

Accident Reports
If a club member sustains injury at the Boys & Girls Club that requires first aid or medical attentions, the program staff will complete an accident report with a general description of the situation. A copy of that report will be placed in the club member’s file and an additional copy will be supplied to the parent or guardian when the club member is picked up or provided to the parent or guardian at their request.

Lost or Stolen Items

The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills will assume no responsibility for any lost or stolen items. It will be the responsibility for the member to ensure that all personal items are secure.

There is a lost and found box located at the Club in which parents and members may look through for lost items.

Electronic Devices and Personal Toys
All electronic devices including IPODS, cell phones, personal video games, radios, etc. will not be permitted on premises. Club members are not permitted to bring personal toys (stuffed animals, dolls, trading cards, etc) unless notice is sent home for certain programs.

It is strongly recommended that no money be brought to the Boys & Girls Club. If there is an event in which a member will need funds (special events or field trips), there will be notices sent out to parents and members.

In addition to application to the Club, parents and new club members are encouraged to attend a short orientation session with staff. This may be done ahead of time or on the first day your child attends the club.
