FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: KIDS
Can I bring electronics and toys to the Club?
We encourage you to leave your electronics and toys at home. Since there are programs and activities at the Club, you won’t need them!
How old do I have to be to join?
Generally, Boys & Girls Clubs serve young people 5–18 years old (must have attended kindergarten for a period of 1 month). Our Brimley Club is only open to club member ages 7 years old and on up.
How can I sign up?
You can pick up an application at either of our Club sites. When you have completed the application, please return it to either of our Club locations.
When can I go in to a Club?
Generally, the Clubs are open from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday during the school year. Our summer hours are from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, at our Bay Mills location. The Brimley Club is closed during summer programming.
Can I bring money to the Club?
Money is not allowed at the club unless directed by staff for field trip purposes.
What if I get hungry at the Club?
Snacks are provided after school at both Club locations.
Can I go on a field trip?
Many of our Club staff offer specialized field trips during the school year that relate to programs and projects that are underway, and youth who
have taken part in those programs will be invited. For some of these trips there will be an additional cost. During the summer field trips are more
recreational in nature and may be open to the general Club membership. Summer field trips have an additional cost.

How can I sign up my child?
You can pick up an application at either of our Club sites. When you have completed the application, please return it to either of our Club locations.
Applications must be filed and dues must be paid before a member can begin attending Club regularly.
Is Club membership restricted to certain ages?

What do the Boys & Girls Clubs offer to kids?
The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills/Brimley is a local, autonomous affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, whose mission is to inspire and
enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
Why is the cost of membership at the Boys & Girls Club?
Our membership dues are based on family size and total household income. Information regarding the total amount of dues that need to be paid
can be found on the application.
Do the Clubs have summer programs?
During the summer, The Boys & Girls Club of Bay Mills is open from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The Brimley Club is not open
during summer programming.
Do the Clubs provide transportation from my child’s school?
Unfortunately, our club does not provide transportation to either of our Clubs after school. Club members are able to ride the school bus to the Club if prearranged at their school offices.
How are Boys & Girls Clubs different from other youth organizations?
Boys & Girls Clubs are specially designed to serve youth 5–18 years old. As a result, young people find a unique sense of belonging at their Club. Clubs are supervised by trained youth development professionals, not just volunteers. They offer a wide variety of programs that build character, enhance education, cultivate creativity, encourage fitness and teamwork, and teach important life skills.
What are the Club operating hours?
Generally, the Clusb are open from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday during the school year. The Bay Mills Club is open from 10:00 am to
3:00 pm on Saturday, also during the school year. Our summer hours are from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, at our Bay Mills location.
The Brimley Club is closed during summer programming.
Can I volunteer?
Yes, you can volunteer. Parents, as with any adult volunteer, are asked to pass a criminal background check and attend a volunteer orientation.
Can my child call home?
Yes, children can call home to speak with parents or guardians. We encourage families to make sleep over plans and similar social plans prior to kids
arriving at the Club to ensure that all parents have the details of those social events.
Can my child bring money to the Club?
We ask that children do not bring money to the Club unless instructed by the staff otherwise.

Can volunteers use or teach specific skills?
Yes, volunteers can share their personal skills and talents with members. Set up a meeting with the Unit Director at our Bay Mills Club to explore available opportunities.
Can anyone volunteer?
Yes, anyone who passes a criminal background check and attends a short volunteer orientation is eligible to volunteer.
Are high school students eligible?
Yes, we encourage teens to volunteer.
Can my group volunteer?
We accept groups of volunteers for on-going projects as well as one time activities.
Do I have to volunteer on the same day every time I volunteer?
We encourage volunteers to set a consistent schedule with our Unit Director as this allows for our staff to plan accordingly. Additionally, many of our kids look forward to seeing volunteers each week so a consistent schedule is a successful way to build relationships with youth.

What do the Boys & Girls Clubs offer to kids?
Boys & Girls Clubs are safe and positive places for kids to enjoy fun and engaging programs at an affordable price. Paid, professional staff members
supervise a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of various ages and interests. Activities include leadership and community service clubs,
homework help, computers, games, sports, dance, photography, arts and crafts, discussion groups, delinquency prevention, and much more.
